Gingoog Sanitarium and Hospital Spearheads Humanitarian Response in Surigao City

February 2, 2022 by Leave a Comment

Free medical mission and the relief operation were conducted in Surigao City led by Gingoog Sanitarium and Hospital with the members of Gingoog Seventh Day Adventist Church in coordination with Northeastern Mindanao Mission – Adventist Community Services headed by Pastor Jerry Taguno.

The said program was held last January 7, 2022, at Surigao City Seventh-Day Adventist Central Church and was attended by approximately 200 individuals that were affected by typhoon Odette (Rai – International name). This cause was conducted as a demonstration of humanitarian response and also to address the health needs of the residents in Surigao city.

It can be seen that the people affected by the disaster are slowly recovering from the destruction that the typhoon had brought, a few weeks after it left the damages. Also, they were still hoping that someone would meet their daily needs such as food, clean water, clothing, and especially support with regards to their health. As a result, the Gingoog Sanitarium and Hospital headed by Dr. Jerry Manuel, the president, created this initiative in order to help and care for those who were affected, by setting up a free clinic or medical mission and providing relief goods to every family.

On the same venue, some of the volunteers conducted health lectures talking about how an individual can respond to emergencies especially in the occurrence of a disaster. They also tackle infections that people might get in dirty waters and surroundings. In addition, other volunteers entertained everyone with songs and praises unto the Lord. Moreover, this cause aims to address people’s physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs.

“I am grateful that our Gingoog Sanitarium and Hospital has responded to help our brothers and sisters who are affected by typhoon Odette,” said Pr. Jerry Taguno – the ACS/ADRA Coordinator of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Caraga Region.
